Team

I am a registered childminder working alongside a team of assistants, which allows me to care for more children and, at certain times of the year, offer spaces for older siblings or additional children. All of us are native German speakers, fluent in English, and most have backgrounds in education and teaching.

Our team members are carefully recruited and selected, all Ofsted-approved, and fully suitable to work with children. Typically, three to four practitioners are present during each session.

We are all fully insured, DBS checked, and trained in Safeguarding and Paediatric First Aid. We also have extensive knowledge of Early Years Child Development, ensuring our ambitious and imaginative curriculum aligns with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Our qualifications and training certificates are available for viewing upon request.

Anja – Founder/Director/Manager

Originally from Germany, I studied primary education before touring Europe, West Africa, and the United States as a professional percussionist. After settling in the UK, I worked as a senior events and marketing manager and later qualified as a nutritionist. When I became a mum, I was very important to me that my children would grow up bilingual. This passion led me to co-found the German Saturday School Brighton & Hove, which I co-chaired for four years.

It was during this time that the dream of creating a community for bilingual families began. This vision grew into the idea of establishing a German-language setting for children. In 2014, I opened the doors of our home in Kemptown, and by 2018, we had grown so much that I began searching for new premises. My dream was realised when we moved to the beautiful, sunny old village school in Falmer, surrounded by nature, in the summer of 2018.

In January 2025, I became an Ofsted-registered childminder and continue to operate under the name Language Garden, now offering both German and English, and delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, much like a preschool or nursery.

Additionally, I hold a Level 3 Early Years Special Educational Needs (SENCO) qualification and am deeply passionate about providing all children with the support they need to thrive.
