GERMAN LANGUAGE IMMERSION
Born and raised in Germany, I studied primary teaching before travelling as a professional percussionist through Europe, West Africa and the United States. After settling in the UK. I worked as a senior events and marketing manager and qualified as a nutritionist. Having become a mum, it was very important to me that my children grew up bilingual and I became involved in setting up the German Saturday School Brighton & Hove, which I co-chaired for four years.
During that time, the dream of creating a community of bilingual families was born. From that, grew the idea of setting up a German kindergarten. I opened the doors of our house in Kemptown for children in 2014 and four years later, we had grown so big that I looked for new premises. In the summer of 2018 my dream for a big, sunny new home for Die Strandzwerge, surrounded by nature, came true and we moved to the beautiful old village school premises in Falmer. And a new chapter began with a new name the 'Language Garden'.
Our curriculum is designed specifically for children aged 3- to 5-years-old. For a few weeks at a time, we focus on a specific topic or a theme, around which we centre our structured activities. These might include storytelling, reading, singing, art projects, music and movement, nature expedition, cooking and baking, and the celebration of traditional German festivals, customs and culture.
